05 · About Woodlark

Built from experience.

Calm. Honest. Credible. Woodlark was built after years of sitting inside the pressure most consultants only ever observe from the outside.

01 · Built from experience

Not from a boardroom. From inside the business itself.

Trent Peek and Richard Ardis.

Between us, we’ve scaled businesses from zero to multi-million-pound revenue, built national brands, raised investment, rebuilt commercial teams, managed operational complexity, and lived through the reality that sits behind growth numbers.

Payroll pressure. Customer churn. Hiring mistakes. Operational bottlenecks. Investor expectations. Systems breaking under momentum. The weight of making decisions when there isn’t a perfect answer.

That experience shapes how we work now.

Because growth rarely fails in one dramatic moment. It usually slips quietly — in unclear positioning, slow decision-making, founder dependency, operational drag, weak communication between teams, momentum masking structural weakness underneath.

The businesses that scale best are usually the clearest. Clear proposition. Clear accountability. Clear systems. Clear expectations.

That’s what Woodlark exists to help build.

02 · Why we started Woodlark

The kind of business we would have hired ourselves.

We became increasingly frustrated by how disconnected much of the consultancy world felt from operational reality. Too much advice without accountability. Too much theory without consequence. Too many growth strategies built by people who had never carried the weight of running the business themselves.

We wanted strategic thinking grounded in lived experience. Not slide decks. Not jargon. Not borrowed frameworks. Real commercial thinking from people who understand what growth actually feels like — when customers, teams, margins, and momentum all depend on getting decisions right.

So we built the kind of business we would have hired ourselves.

A small senior team. Direct access. No layers. No junior handovers. No theatre.

Just operators helping other businesses grow with more clarity, better systems, and stronger commercial foundations.

03 · The story behind it

Perspective — not theory.

Before Woodlark, we co-founded one of the UK’s fastest-growing 3PL businesses. What started as an idea grew quickly into a multi-million-pound business serving some of the UK’s fastest-growing e-commerce brands.

The business scaled fast. Investment followed. The team grew. Operations expanded. The complexity increased. Some parts worked exceptionally well. Some parts didn’t.

But the experience gave us something far more valuable than theory.

Perspective.

We learned what happens when demand outpaces infrastructure. When founders become bottlenecks without meaning to. When communication becomes as important as capability. When operational excellence and commercial clarity have to move together.

Most importantly, we learned that sustainable growth depends on far more than ambition alone. It depends on systems. People. Decision-making. Narrative. Execution. Consistency. Leadership.

That understanding now sits at the centre of everything we do at Woodlark.

04 · What we believe

Growth is operational.

01

Businesses break in the gaps between departments.

Founder-led businesses often struggle not because the product is weak, but because the infrastructure underneath the business hasn’t evolved with the growth around it.

02

Perception, narrative, and clarity matter.

How a business is seen, talked about, and understood — internally and externally — shapes what it can become next.

03

Most businesses don’t need more ideas.

They need alignment. Execution. Commercial structure. Momentum. The work is rarely about generating more — it’s about getting more out of what’s already there.

04

The best operators simplify.

Not because business is simple. Because complexity compounds fast when nobody owns clarity.

05 · Why clients work with us

We approach businesses operationally.

Not academically. From inside the pressure of building them.

Clients work with Woodlark because we understand the pressure behind growth decisions.

We know what it feels like when payroll depends on pipeline. When systems haven’t caught up with demand. When customer experience starts slipping quietly beneath the surface. When founders carry too much responsibility for too long.

That changes the conversations we have. The decisions we challenge. The opportunities we see. And ultimately, the results we help create.

06 · The founders

Two founders. Both operators. Both in every room.

Two operators with backgrounds spanning commercial leadership, brand building, fulfilment, operational scale, fundraising, sales growth, and strategic execution. We co-founded one of the UK’s fastest-growing 3PL businesses, scaling it from zero to £5m ARR in under two years — and lived through the reality that sits behind growth numbers.

No team behind the team. No junior associates billed out. Three retainer clients at a time. Both of us in every room.

Trent Peek.
Founder · Architect · Nottingham

Trent Peek

Trent Peek is a founder and architect — highly skilled in the commercial and relational work that builds growth into a business. He and Richard run Woodlark together, with Trent’s day-to-day specialisms across Growth, AI, and Fulfilment. Earlier in his career, he led a multi-channel retail and distribution business through a period of rapid scale, taking it from c.£2.8m to £11m turnover in under two years while expanding into new product categories and unlocking new revenue streams. He also built a strong commercial foundation in B2B distribution, consistently opening new accounts and delivering standout performance in competitive markets. His approach to growth and leadership has been recognised through awards including Entrepreneur of the Year and Young Leader of the Year.

He went on to co-found one of the UK’s fastest-growing 3PL businesses, growing it from zero to c.£5m ARR in under two years and reaching a £6m run rate shortly after. The business secured over £3m in investment and partnered with high-growth consumer brands across FMCG, fashion, wellness, and homeware. Alongside the numbers, he placed a strong emphasis on building a high-performing team and culture, earning recognition for Best People and Culture, while developing a commercial engine that consistently converted in competitive environments.

Outside of work, Trent is grounded in the things that matter. A lifelong Newcastle United supporter, he brings the same loyalty and resilience into how he builds businesses and relationships. He is a father of two, with his youngest born in April 2026, and places a high value on family alongside ambition. His close friendship with Richard, built long before business and strengthened through building multiple ventures together, sits at the centre of how he operates. At Woodlark, that translates into a partnership-led approach, working closely with founders and leadership teams to build businesses that are not only growing, but built to last.

Richard Ardis.
Founder · Designer · London

Richard Ardis

Richard Ardis is a founder, designer, and marketing expert — built on positioning, persuasion, and turning audience insight into propositions that convert. He and Trent run Woodlark together, with Richard’s day-to-day specialisms across Studio and Growth. Earlier in his career, he spent over 15 years with Global Media, where he served as Managing Director of Capital FM and led one of the UK’s top-performing sales teams for three consecutive years. His background is rooted in understanding audiences, crafting compelling propositions, and consistently winning in competitive, high-pressure environments.

He went on to co-found one of the UK’s fastest-growing 3PL businesses, growing it from zero to c.£5m ARR in under two years and reaching a £6m run rate shortly after. The business secured over £3m in investment and built partnerships with high-growth consumer brands across FMCG, fashion, wellness, and homeware. Richard led the commercial strategy, brand positioning, and external narrative of the business, ensuring it stood out in a crowded market and consistently converted when it mattered. From sales collateral and investor communications to partnerships and market presence, he focused on building a business that people understood, believed in, and chose to work with.

Outside of work, Richard is grounded in family and perspective. A father, he values time away from the intensity of building businesses, often finding clarity in stepping back before moving forward. His close friendship with Trent, built long before business and strengthened through building multiple ventures together, sits at the centre of how he operates. At Woodlark, that translates into a clear, human approach to growth, working closely with founders and leadership teams to build commercial engines that don’t just generate attention, but convert it into meaningful, lasting results.

07 · How we work

Five things we will not negotiate.

01

Independence is the product.

No kickbacks, no referral fees, no preferred partners. The only people paying us are the people we work for. In writing.

02

Three retainers at a time.

It’s the ceiling at which the work stays good and the calls stay short. We turn down the fourth, every time.

03

Diagnostic-first, always.

A fixed-fee diagnostic before any retainer. The written report is yours either way. If the answer is “not yet” or “not us”, we say so.

04

Founders in the room.

No junior associates billed out. One or both of us is in every working session, every readout, every difficult call.

05

Conflict policy comes first.

No two direct competitors on the books without prior knowledge and agreement of the existing client. Always. Even when it costs us a retainer.

06

Short prose by default.

Long reports impress no one. We write the briefest thing that answers the question — and put the working underneath if you want to see it.
